Music sampling can be described as reusing a portion of an already exciting song as part of a new one. This helps keep old/ hit songs alive & known
Sampling without permission is copyright violation and you can be held for copyright infringement. This has landed the likes of Robin Thicke, Pharrell Williams, TI & Universal Records in trouble for using Marvin Gaye's "Give it up" in their song "Blurred Lines" where they had to give up 50% of their royalties & $5.3m to the estate of Marvin Gaye.

To be able to make use of an old song (in part or full) in a new song, you have to obtain clearance from the owners of the copyright (sound recording & music composition) before using the song.
Compensation are usually paid for the use of the song. it is in your best interest to hire us to assist in negotiating payment.
A clear example of music sampling in Nigeria can be seen in the case of Yemi Alade's "Johnny" and Wizkid's "Caro". Also Davido & P-Square have also taken part in music sampling.
If things are done the right way, our legends (or their estate)can be taken care after they have left the industry through rightful payments & keeping their song alive.
